: Very funny, Miss Gaylee! But to clarify one small point...I can picture CORA crawling up that trail like I did...Madeleine Stowe, however, is a whole 'nuther kettle of fish! Something tells me she would have drawn the line at crawling on her hands & knees under bushes & sliding down rocks for over two hours to reach that point. DDL, of course, could have sprinted right up there in nothing flat, I'm certain. ;o)

MMMarcia,
Nicely analysed, my dear. The REAL Cora would have challenged La Longue Carabine to a race on the upward course and laughed all the way. Maddy is, indeed, just a little too Hollywood.
On the other hand, DDL (Mr. Poe) is WAY too Hollywood for Cooper's Natty Bumppo, but let's give him this - he was really, actually capable of the physical demands of the set as well as of the story. Sure gets complicated when one tries to relate the movie characters to the book characters, but that's what keeps us comin' back to the Board, right?.
