: : : : Sarah,
: : : : An interesting view; I always thought Alice was looking around her as if she didn't know/couldn't figure out where she was; couldn't believe she was yet on the trail again; and was completely at a loss as to where she was; what to do; where she was going; where does this trail go to...until she saw Uncas...which bought a bit of reality to the moment.
: : : : Don't want to start up any further discussions; just my opinion.

: : : Hi Jo,

: : : I saw it the same way you saw it. Total bewilderment.

: : : Chris

: : I was going to let this alone, but I find I can't. If she was "lost in the recesses of her mind", she would NOT be looking around looking at things, she would be staring down or ahead with a dead-blank stare, eyes turned inward, UNAWARE of her surroundings. I didn't see that she was in the least but UNAWARE but was aware -- was looking at her surroundings -- probably in bewilderment about where she was and where she was going, but THAT meant by definition that her mind was engaged, not lost.

: : "Bewildered" in my Oxford dictionary, means utterly perplexed, confused; confounded, puzzled, mystified, befuddled. All of these require that the mind be alert, IN GEAR. THAT's why I say -- yes, she may be been purplexed, but she wasn't as far gone as so many people make her out to be!

: : In fact, I should say thanks, because your use of the word "bewilderment" has actually supported my arguement. THANKS. :>)

: : Cheers,
: : Sarah

: Hi Sara, Jo & Chris,

: I am glad you brought it up again. I always like to relate to that scene in the film, which as everybody knows by now, was one of my favorites. Or better yet, It was the one that provoked my thoughts the most and the one that I personally got the most out of in the film. So I love any oportunity to jump in and discuss it.

: I agree with both of you completely. I also felt that she was AWARE. My perception of her as coming into her full strength, after all of her trials and tribulations, was inspiring to me. I know that this does not work for everyone, but I still think it was an act of strength to JUMP. She jumped to join her beautiful protector, Uncas (soooo romantic). I could never have jumped, As I don't have that much courage (I hate to admit it, but it is true).

: Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to put in my 2 cents (again for the zillionth time).

: Ayesha

Hello all

I am finally back and glad to be back!!

This Alice topic, I just had to add my comments. This topic draws me out and makes me speak. I fully agree with Ayesha.
... full strength, inspiring, full strenghth to Jump to join her beautiful protector, not enough courage in myself to jump ...
