: : : I know thre are those of you who view our Mr. Poe as the protagonist/hero as essentailly non-partisan and motivated by good hearted, redblooded aims.  His little insubordinations have been dismissed as patriotism 'a borning.'  I just thought you'd like to know that there is talk at one of the taverns,(that really rough one near the edge of the woods near the path where no honest person would go) that Hawkeye is in deeper with the French than is commonly supposed.  I don't wonder if it doesn't change our perceptions of his words and actions and our interpretation of the events we have all witnessed.
