: Victoria,
: I am trying hard to develop and maintain a positive attitude, although Michael Mann's work is an almost impossibly tough act to follow in today's Hollywood.

>>>I think when we exit the theater that LOTM will continue to stand in its place at the top.

: "The Pathfinder" is the next book after "Last of the Mohicans". Takes place first at the encampment of the 55th at the head of the Oswego on Lake Ontario, and later at a small post which forms the scene for the gory Indian raid. The main theme of the book is Natty's infatuation for and wooing of Mabel Dunham, a snotty little social climber in the garb of a pious daughter of a non-commissioned officer.

>>>Oh yeah, now I remember. Hope they pick a good actress.

A good director could make it into an exciting and emotionally grabbing movie, especially with emphasis on the secondary story of the traitor Arrowhead and his brave and loyal, but typically beaten-down wife, Dew-of-June. The success of the film will depend on the reason for producing it - i.e., a good frontier story of treason and danger or an opportunity to push politically correct agenda.

>>>Hollywood could fail miserably at both.

: Only Arrowhead and Dew-of-June would be real character roles, but it would be nice to see a female Native American get a chance here.
: Gayle

>>>I surely hope so. It's about d**n time.
