Hmm, I guess I have no comparison since I ONLY watch it alone. One reason is that my family declines (more or less) politely when I suggest my tape. The other reason is that, for optimal concentration, I need to sit on the floor, closer to the TV than our sofa (I'm near sighted, might miss out on details otherwise), be in sole control of the remote, ice-cream bowl in hand and snacks positioned around me (my hearing is fine, so careful and slow munching of chips doesn't impair my experience).
