I don't think he translated anything at all, JC. Not a word of what Hawkeye said, I don't think the Sachem ever understood that Hawkeye was another candidate for roasting. If he said Take me take me, he repeated it for himself.

Wwhen Duncan said "my compliments" I believe he meant in a very old-fashioned chivalrous manner, "my compliments for getting your lady."

Yes, his last minute actions/fate IS ironic. And so tragic.
