: : I have 2 favorite scenes, can't decide which one I like better: 1) as they camp at the indian burial site and Cora moves over to Hawkeye....now you might watch her closely during this scene but I enjoy DDL's acting thru it -- at first he's cool(her breed makes no sense), then the Indian/French hunters approach and Cora takes her gun from the dress pocket, after the hunters move away, he tells her he'll make an exception in her case(he's definitely warming up to her here:o)....he looks into the sky & almost recites a poem(DDL is a Poet Laureate's son - a natural)...she says this new world is "more deeply stirring to her blood, than anything she could have imagined"....he's hooked....(so am I - on him!).....she turns over, lies down & altho'he's not completely distracted from watching for the hunters, he's more interested in looking at her, and I think a slow, look from the top of her head to the tip of her toe was edited from the film....(sigh)...guess that one MUST be my favorite scene.
: : 2) other one I had in mind was when the fiddle music starts playing and Hawkeye sweeps thru the crowd in the fort looking for Cora and WOW! when that camera moves from him to her, he walks over, gently takes her hand.....and....Madeleine Stowe becomes a very lucky woman:o).....wonder if she thought so, she sure seemed to react well.
: : My husband only saw the movie once, when it opened back in 1992. His favorite scene is the bombardment of the fort we see as Hawkeye, Cora, etc. approach.....like most men, he enjoys the military grandeur(to him:o) of it all.
: : Hope that answered your question.
: : Take care, ann
: Ann, If you look carefully you can see Hawkeye look Cora "up and down", after she rolls over to nap.(pretty brazen of her, almost a come-on, I think). And he gave her the old once over in the surgery, too. And I loved the way she confronted him for staring. Showed a lot of spirit. He said the right thing, too. Admitting he was looking, but addressing her as Miss. That little touch showed he meant no disrespect, only admiration. That little smile she gives him is the point where they "clicked", seems that was all the encouragement he needed.
: Uncas' part in the scene is just as neat. In fact, maybe bandaging Uncas is what made Cora all hot and bothered in the first place. The ribbing Hawkeye gives Uncas' is amusing.
: This is one of my favorite scenes, but I don't think I could pick one favorite scene, they were all sooooo great! In fact, each time I sit down to watch the film, I just can't skip any of it.

Yes, Kathy, it was rather brazen of Cora to leave Duncan and end up staying by Hawkeye, but wouldn't you feel safer there??...After watching the way he handled the attackers that afternoon and knowing they were being stalked, wouldn't it be instinctive for her to go wherever she felt safest in those circumstances?
I agree that the entire film is wonderful. Have you seen it just recently for the first time?....I was happily surprised to stumble upon LOTM about 3 wks ago, and have been chatting about it ever since:o)
