: : : But I still think the best one was Mary's interpretation of Duncan's final line as, "My corns hurt, Sir...take her and get out!" A year later, I'm still laughing about that one! And (though I hadn't come up with anything nearly that funny) I had a trouble with that same line for months before realizing he was saying "My compliments, Sir...take her and get out!" Poor Duncan and his soon-to-be-roasted corns!!(Of course, it could be argued that Duncan's final line was actually, "Aaaaaaaagggggggggghhhhh!" but that would be TACKY, and thus, WAY beneath Mighty Mohican Mama Marcia!)

: : THANK YOU! The one line Hawkeye replies to Jack at the fort was the one I couldn't come CLOSE to figuring out. Thank you for clarifying for me.
: : BTW, I thought Waddington was BRILLIANT the way he did those Aaaaaaaaagggghhhhhs. It makes my flesh creep, and I can't remember feeling anyone's physical pain as I do in those few shots!

: Hi Sarah,
: It's true testament to an actor's dramatic abilities, when we feel our "flesh creep" in the way you describe. In fact, this is the one scene where my squeamishness, not only causes me to close my eyes, but in addition I push the "mute" button & then try to time a peek just as Hawkeye aims his musket. There are 5 scenes in LOTM where I go thru these "creep" avoidance techniques:o):the ambush in the woods, the massacre, Duncan's Barbeque & Uncas' & Magua's deaths. The expectation in '92 that these sort of "realistic" scenes were probably in the movie, caused me to avoid viewing it at all. Little did I know that the quality of story, actors, soundtrack, directing, etc. would make it enjoyable entertainment despite the "blood & guts" moments.....ann
Ann,
I'm with you -- my eyes are closed at most of those same scenes. I can watch the Duncan cremation but my hands are tightly gripped and I hold my breath in agony. I cannot watch the ambush, the battle at the fort, the massacre, nor Uncas' and Magua's death (except for the very end when Chingachgook does that full-body swing with the battle axe). Someone else was commenting on the sound (the quality of the sounds was the reason LOTM won the best sound) and it's the sound of Uncas' shirt being slashed -- a small sound that seems so big -- that is my cue to look up and (a) grieve with Alice and (b) wish to GOD that was me Uncas was looking at like that! Then I have to cover my eyes and nearly plug my ears! Sarah
