Wellllll, you know, this is dangerous ground. But! I have heard! This is just between us, right? Rumours say... A mysterious stranger visited the family grave last winter, claiming to be a relative of our notorious Dutchie ancestor. Claiming to come to give his respects, right? This mystery figure, I have heard, burst into tears reading that powerful message on the stone, and was overheard saying: "Oh Dad, Oh Dweeby Dad, if only you could be here with me on this historic Day-Lewis-day!" Now, the Miss Marcia connection... I cannot prove.... But... still??

Ilse and Elaine,
This is really confusing. Natty mentionned several times that his father was buried "by the sea", and that he had returned once to see that a gravestone (which cost him 12 beaver skins) was made that told his father's name, the years, of his honesty and of the manner of his life. I always assumed "by the sea" meant Connecticut, but it could well have been the Netherlands.Hmmm. Then Natty traveled back, years later, to the grave to see that the stone had been placed as he directed. Could the mysterious stranger have been Natty, and does that mean that Marcia is Natty Bumppo's mother?

Marcia, is this your kid?!
