: : Gayle,
: : Stop tracking.... Dutchie Bumppo is buried here in the family grave ;-)

: Ilse,
: This is exciting news!! It confirms what we have been speculating about - that Hawkeye did indeed have cousins! Now I begin to grasp a picture of the connections - Dutchie Bumppo and Dweebie Day-Lewis were the sons of a Dutch father and an Irish mother who immigrated to America, proliferated mightily and then, when the cabin proved too small to accomodate the family, lost their kids in the forest with the hopes some Delaware tribe would take them in and make real native Americans of them. Dweebie was too frail for the environment and ended up under the care of Dr. Mary, while Dutchie didn't think he could stomach the morals of the settlements and returned to the land of his fathers, where he established a trading business with a branch in the colonies, and thus we gained The Dutch Trader. The wonderful thing about America is that, if you look hard enough, you will find that everybody's related somehow. Thank you for this enlightening information. HOWSEVER, since it appears Dutchie and Natty were cousins, my search goes on!
: She, etc.
Phew!!! I'm so glad we finally cleared that business up. This Mohicaan genealogy is mind boggling.
There a few details we should fill in here, She-etc.
Dweebie Day-Lewis, after undergoing intensive treatment at the hands of Dr. Mary, was married off to Miss Marcia.
Rumor has it that there are offspring from this union, though it has yet to be confirmed.
Dutchie Bumppo, who was much closer to his Lowlander father than he was to his Gaelic mother, did return to his Netherland roots.
Not to confuse the issue, but he married a member of the Van Rensselaer dynasty which assured future Dutchie traders a strong foothold in New York's patroonships. Our Dutch trader Ilse descends from this line.
Their Gaelic mother hails from the very same county as the ancestors of Dr. Mary, hence her intense interest in the welfare of Mr. Hawkeye Day-Lewis. (Common roots are very important to Irish Eyes.)
The Delaware tribe felt the Day-Lewis/Bumppo crowd had pulled a Hansel & Gretel on them, so they promptly sent off a portion of their descendants to Huronia. Magua got into a scrap with one of the Day-Lewis/Bumppo kids while still a small child. This was the beginning of his life long feud with the Delaware/Mohican/Hawkeye gang.
And as you say, Nattie and the Dutchie were cousins. Please fill in the Hutter family connection for us.
