: : Magua's life history, the title of the book/movie, the talk of Indian allies for English, French all inspired me after viewing LOTM to do more research on native americans. Can't say that I personally feel any responsibility for the shameless way they've been treated since Europeans first set foot in No. America; since my ancestors were busy struggling with the same kind of unjust domination by the English in Ireland at the time. As a matter of fact, being a resident of The Keystone State, have been rather proud that William Penn seems to have been the only European who handled his dealings with our Native Americans with integrity. Haven't given much thought to this particular chapter of U.S. history before--it has become a fascinating subject for me since viewing LOTM....ann

Okay, I have to comment here. I did not have an intense hate for Magua because I recognized the tragedy of the times- it was bad for everyone all around. The French and the British come in fighting for control of land that wasn't even theirs. The Indians were pitted against each other fighting for the French or fighting for the British- Indians killing Indians, the British killing the French, whites killing Indians, Indains killing whites, innocent settlers trying to make a better life for themselves stuck in the middle, and so on. It was one big killing fest, for a lack of a better term.
I happen to have Native American blood flowing through my veins, it's in my soul- so I might be a little on the biased side, but I have researched my anscestry and what I've learned blows me away. I DO have a problem with what the white man did.
I don't want to start any fights so I'm going to stop now before stepping on anyone's toes.
