On the subject of Cora and Hawkeye and who was in control of the
situation when they ended up together. Cora states in one of her
speeches that "I have seen the face of war before". She was not quite
so innocent as in the book. As to hawkeye being the aggressor, he was
a woodsman and grew up with the Indians who had a much different
outlook on sex than the whites. He no doubt would have had at least
some experience in the area. In the book at the time of its publication the morales of the time dictated otherwise. I beleive both of them were willing parties in the matter. I do like the part
where Hawkeye is getting the silk and they have their little
stare-down. I think a self-assured 18th century woman would have acted
in much the same way.
