Saying this in such august company, this seems pointless as I'm sure that you all know this. Nonetheless, it is worth noting that one of the many excuses given by the Europeans for their mistreatment of the Indians was concerning their 'savage nature.'

A prime example of this was the practice of scalping that was common among the Indians at the time. However, it is beleived now that this practice was introduced by European bounty hunters and was used by them as proof of a kill so that bounties could be claimed.

How's that for propoganda?
