"Braveheart" has the epic size, a Sottish version of "Spartacus," but it suffered from crassness, unneeded nudity and foul language, a cartoonish villian, and a ridiculous subplot of a romance between Wallace and the Princess of Wales. I liked "Braveheart" alot....
Yikes, Tom! What do you say about a film you hate?? ;o) Seriously, I know what you mean. It is possible to be aware of all the failings of a film and still like it. I love Braveheart because of its portrayal of the indomitable human spirit. I don't even mind the made-up romance between Wallace and the Princess. It's one of my favorite films...but it will never take over my heart the way The Last of the Mohicans does.
Mohicans represents a period of "Possibilities" in this country's history...with the raw materials for the Nation-to-be still lying perfect before us, waiting to be molded into something greater than had ever been created before. While I'm certainly proud to be an American, I also wish we had been better at caring for the land we usurped...of course, that's a whole 'nuther topic... But I always feel watching LOM as though I've stepped back for awhile and had a brief glimpse of how incredibly beautiful it might have been in 1757...and it is always "far more stirring to my blood" than anything presented in any other film, thus far.
