The *starry skies* shouldn't bother you. Unlike the western tribes, the Algonquians and other eastern woodland peoples generally buried their dead, as in *underground*. So...those Cameron's monument stars would indeed be seen while in the glade.
Having said that, there's another reason they would have worked. The scripted scene refers to burial scaffolds off to the side.
Though this would be inaccurate (I believe!)...again, it still leaves the night sky wide open!
Take your pick...actual burial practices or LOTM scripted burial practices. They both would have deterred the Canadians and Ottawa from advancing against Hawk-Eye and company, as well as offering a celestial viewing!
