Joe: I've been watching for the answer I always thought was obvious, and no one has mentioned it so here is my take on the horse, etc: When our heroes are having supper at the Cameron's cabin, they talk of trading their furs for gold. The next day at the cabin, Jack states that he and his volunteers will go to Albany. Surely some time elapses between this scene & the ambush scene. After all, it would have taken at least a day or two for Jack & Crew to get to Albany to meet with Webb. Duncan & company don't march out of Albany until the morning after that. I always assumed that during the interim between the morning at Cameron's cabin & the morning of the ambush, which could be who knows HOW long, Hawkeye & the gang traded their furs & dispensed with the horse, one way or another. Does this make sense?
