: : : :How about that the French used a RED flag to ask for a truce, in the film it was a white flag. The Massacre lasted only a few minutes and was broken up by Montcalm. It also took place two days after the fort surrendered not the same day.

: : Joe,
: : Now that you mention it...I never noticed! The red flag was used to contrast against the white uniforms of the French, right?
: : The massacre was one day after, though, wasn't it? On the 9th...
: : For those who don't realize it, this here is "Colonial Joe" who can be found on the Musings Pages!

: : According to Allen Eckert in "Wilderness Empire" the surrender was on the 9th that would make it one day, but in S. Schwartz's "The French and Indian War" he puts the surrender on the 8th. I'm not sure who's right. Most agree that the massacre happened on the 10th. I had a cousin (Great-Great,etc of course!) who was taken captive at W-H
: and escaped by a very clever method. I'll check the dates in the family history to get the correct date.

A correction, please! What I meant to say was; the surrender was on the 9th & the massacre, the next day on the 10th. A mental error on my part which I HAD to clarify if I was to sleep tonight. But what I wanted to ask you, Joe, was whether you intended to leave us hanging? A very clever method? Care to tell the tale?
Also, I didn't realize Eckert claimed the 8th as the date of surrender. What does he base that on?
