Here, here Ayesha, you hit the nail on the head! I know I'm in the minority, but I would like to think that Alice and Uncas would have had a lifelong loving relationship. A perfect example from the film is the very first time the audience meets Johdi to the last time we see her on the cliff. I think the makeup dept. did a fabulous job because Johdi looks 14 when she greets Duncan during his visit. By the time she jumps, her hair is down and she looks closer to 21. I do agree that Alice is more of a fragile soul who needs more care than Cora, but if Uncas and Alice had survived, I believe he would have never tired of her.
The one question I've always pondered and will ask if I ever meet Johdi May is the motivation behind Alice jumping off the cliff. There can only be two reasons, but I have yet to figure out the truth. The obvious first reason is that she followed Uncas. The second reason is she is so horrified by Magua and what he has done that she feels jumping is her only course of action. Many people commit suicide because they have lost hope. Did Alice lose all hope? I find that hard to believe because I feel at that point she was very mature and knew what she was doing. IMHO, I would like to think Alice jumped because of her disgust of Magua and to follow Uncas. Well, consider this the mutterings of someone who believes in innocent and eternal love!
