: Rebecca,
: There may be yet another very indirect link between Smoke Signals and LOTM; the director, Chris Eyre, was interviewed by Mick LaSalle, (and printed in the SF Chronicle on June 28.) Mr. Eyre states:
: "Hollywood doesn't believe tht in 1998 you can make a movie about Indians that doesn't rely on loincloths and romanticism. ..."
: Surely, he wasn't thinking of LOTM???
: Am looking foreward to seeing the movie, thanks, Ayesha, for the review.

Hi Jo,
I don't believe that he was thinking of LOTM alone. The majority of movies with Native American content are period pieces. Unfortunately there are very few contemporary Native American movies...I will definitely appreciate watching " Smoke Signals".
Another good series to watch is "Grand Avenue". The writer is Native American and I really liked the whole story!!
Oh, and I remember a post about somebody( Marcia?) wanting to see Tantoo Cardinal in a comtemporary flick . Tantoo portrays the elder in Grand Avenue.
