Hi fellow lovers of LOTM - I am a high school history teacher who uses the film to teach French & Indian War and the multi-culturalism of US history to my students. Without exception, they all LOVE the film.
To let you know, (and I don't think I posted this before), the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of the Mohican Nation has a reservation in Wisconsin; these are the proud descendents of the Mohicans who lived in the Hudson Valley region for thousands of years prior to the arrival by Henry Hudson in 1609. Please remember the LOTM is a 19th century work of fiction with a strong (and effective) romantic storyline. Mann's interpretation of Cooper's work is the absolute best, but we should always remember that the real Mohicans are not Hollywood Indians.
Lot's of great stuff is happening in New York related to the Mohicans and the French & Indian War period. If any one would like to email me about these topics, and for additional resources, please email me at RchWalling@aol.com.
I am also president of the Friends at Monmouth Battlefield, a battle in which 20 Stockbridge Mohicans fought. I look forward to talking with fellow LOTM fans!
