It amazes me how neglected LOTM was by the Academy. Something was/is VERY fishy. Sure, it did have tremendous SOUND, but HOW in the name of SANITY can that be the ONLY thing one recognizes as superb when viewing this masterpiece?? Poor Michael Mann ... all that hard work, so very little credit by his own!
It should have been up for a nomination, AT LEAST, in all these catagories. The only one I can see being left off is Best Supporting Actress; MAYBE Best Actor ... not that DDL was bad - he was the BEST Hawkeye - just that it might not be the type of role that wins that kind of thing. I don't know ...
: Best Picture: Yes, certainly!
: Best Director: Of course!
: Best Actor: DDL, maybe ...
: Best Actress: Madeleine was excellent.
: Best Supporting Actor: Definitely Wes Studi. Steven Waddington wouldn't have been a bad choice, either.
: Best Adapted Screenplay: Possibly.
: Best Cinematography: This one was a lock, IMHO. Mystifying how it was ignored.
