rich, have you read any of the books?? I've read Lonesome Dove...but I've heard the others are excelent as well. As far as Lonesome Dove, it's probably the best book I've ever read!! The most recent addition to the series, I've been told, is almost as good as the original. It involves Gus and Call when they were in there prime, back when 'they wanted to write songs about us.'
I don't want to offend any die hard LOTM fans, cause I am one, but I'd have to say Gus and Call are about as good as it gets...cool wise (along with Haykeye, and clint eastwood)...However, they are real people, with real problems and ghosts. Maybe it's six hour length helped. While Hawkeye, and often times clint in his westerns(with the exception of Unforgiven) are almost like superheroes. Instead of x-ray vision, they have snake like reflexes and pin point accuracy, at any range. That is not a critisism....I love these movies, I just think Lonesome Dove is a story about heroes...that are REAL people too.
