I came across a passage yesterday in which Montcalm was described and
was struck how like he was in character to our own dear Lainey. I shall have to look that up when I get home and post it....(you don't actually expect me to remember a full page of text do you? I forgot to take my pills this morning, then couldn't remember that I had forgotten, barely remembered the way to work after a weekend away from it....)
One thing not related to our Lainey though....it was stated that he really had no liking or respect for his indian allies and thought them quite barbarous and without grace and was quite disturbed by their particular practices with captives etc. But he realized how important they were to the French effort and always treated them with respect, included them as equals in councils, and listened carefully to their advice. He was abhorrent about their cruelty however, and likely this indicates yet another thread that would indicate he was not willfully behind the Ft. William Henry massacre.
Stay tuned for the upcoming comparison between the long ago French leader and our present day Lady of the Mohicans......
