Elaine,
Hi, I'm not so fluent in Cherokee myself, but my in-laws speak it when they are at home, if you know what I mean. My mother-in-law says that some of the subtitles are just a little bit "cleaned up" and although Wes is supposedly speaking an Iriquoian dialect, she can translate all his lines (except the ones in French) without ever looking at the TV screen. A for-instance that comes to mind: Maugua is telling his men that he will have Monroe's daughters killed, but actually he says something in Cherokee about killing Monroe's two female dogs/bitches (there are no "curse" words in Cherokee, only the context determines how someone might interpret the meaning). I can't remember some of the other things right now, but I'll ask her about it.
Thanks for the nice welcome! We'll definitely be back.

: LeeAnn,
: I hope you and your husband will "pass through" more often............ as in; Why don't you stay awhile?
: Thanks for the book info. No one has mentioned it before but it sounds very interesting.
: About Wes' lines in LOTM........ you WEREN'T just going to toss it out rather casually that your family hangs around translating his fantastic chidings..... and not give us some of those translations, were you? In case you haven't noticed, there has been a lot of international bantering as of late. It's real neat because people get to talk to other people ABOUT all the other people......and no one else knows what the heck they're saying!!!!
: Please, Wes Studi/Magua lines???
