: I would never presume to tell Eric Schweig how he should feel about being of native american descent, nor how he should go about (or IF he should go about) promoting understanding of the native american. Nor would I encourage him to be like anyone else. I would prefer to see him be himself, grow as he wishes to grow as native american or as an individual.....and enrich our lives with his talent. Whether it be with masks, or in cinematography. And thereby, being recognized for his talents, be enriched and fulfilled himself.
: In short....I like the guy. I would listen to him much sooner than I would listen to a Russell Means. And frankly, in my opinion....he stands head and shoulders above Means....but that is my opinion. Russell Means can be who he wants to be. But it seems to me he has not developed beyond the anger stage. Nor does he want true understanding and cooperation and respect among peoples of other ethnic or national backgrounds. Ethnocentricity and prejudice is ugly, PERIOD! Whether it is displayed by the "white man" or the black man, or the man living next door.

I fully, totally, completely agree with you Bill.! I undersign.
Predjudice, racism...are among the worst thing I could ever think, wherever they come from. Trying to change/modify others to meet our own personal idea is wrong. Trying to force anybody to be different from what it is is wrong.
I think that nobody (man/woman/ethnic group) holds the TRUTH/ the perfection. Good and bad, wins and failures, rights things and mistakes are (fortunately) everywhere.
May be what we need is just a bit more of respect and understanding for each other, whoever we are, where ever we come from, whatever we think/believe/do.
Sorry if my English is not that clear. Hope havent offended anybody, but this is what I think.
