I like your idea of it appearing as if Hawkeye was being hunted by Uncas & Chingachgook. As it is, though, so many thoughts flew through my head the first time I viewed that sequence ... so many questions ... who were they chasing, were they BEING chased? It is FUN! I think most of the noise you hear is viewer audible only, musical score, effects, etc. I know Mark Baker was around for this scene, perhaps he'll cover some of this when he gets to it in his story. I know he told Elaine that DDL sprained his ankle during this scene. He knew the path EXACTLY, so that he could run so fluidly. Someone changed part of it without letting him know. Ooops! Ouch!

Joe's scenario sounds very plausible & the musket range for a RIFLED barrel is certainly realistic, though at that light, through the woods ... ? But the effect is to make Hawkeye SUPER human. He is a true-old fashioned hero, not necessarily real.

Anyway, if you bring those stories with you to the Gathering, I'm sure we can get a good campfire going! Not to mention make good use of the tipi!
