In regard to the post about men and women and the differences and how
we men study the rifle while the women study the guy carrying it....
Reminds me of a story....
Back when I first started making rifles I didnt have a real workbench.
Did the best I could...but at various stages I would lay it on
the kitchen table and just kind of sit in the living room and gaze at
it from various directions. Really study it. Try to see where more
wood should come off, whether the overal profile was what I was trying to get at, that kind of thing. When I would be working on a gun, like
when I am reading a really good novel, I kind of get lost in it and
nothing going on around me gets me attention. Talk about focused!!
I mean totally. So one day, the wife getting tired of seeing me lost
in that other world, got it in her head that the only way to get my
attention was to become a rifle. So she stretched herself out stiff
and lay down on the kitchen table next to the rifle!! Cracked me up.
Call me strange, but in almost every adventure movie you see a scene
where moments after the hero and heroine being killed they decide to
have a turgid love interval right slam bang in the middle of being
chased, shot at, etc. I mean, the bad guys are still out there in
the night looking for them and could come upon them at any moment!!
And what happens. The heroine looks longingly in his eyes and the
hero takes her in his arms and they have a "moment" (read that as
anything from a long session of necking to doing the horizontal polka). Yea right!! That had to be put in the script to favor the
women folk. Their idea of what romance is and illustrates I think
the differences between men and women. Come on guys. Am I alone here, what say you? Anybody that has ever been in combat with the
adrenaline pumping KNOWING the bad guys are maybe right outside is
NOT gonna start necking!!! All his senses are going to be tuned to
a fever pitch, he can hear noises miles away, smell smells like never
before and the last thing he is thinking about is nooky!! He is a
hair trigger pulled on the "set" mode and just a twitch will set him
into deadly action. Now THAT is focused let me tell you!!!
Not that I am saying Mars is better than Venus or Huron better than
Mohican. Without Venus the world would be a desolate place. Venus
puts the richness in life. Makes it worth going through all the Mars
crap.
