I believe I can shed some light on the Biltmore House filming scenes which found their way to the cutting room floor. When I interviewed reenactors Grant Hardin and Tom Phillips about three years ago, both mentioned the arduous workout the troops had at Biltmore House; both proclaimed these scenes as the most strenuous of all the regimental sequences they filmed. Apparently they were made to march up and downhill in the hot summer sun. I had heard that the surrender scene was horrendous; hot and humid with extras fainting left and right. Grant and Tom said this was worse. And it seems they suffered in vain as far as the big screen is concerned. Perhaps the only Biltmore scene which survives is the drummer and troops marching though the tall grass.
How I wish they would release a "director's cut" of this film!!!
