Well, it really was a fun time last night. Crazy as it might be with all those people talking, trying to type, trying to read the chat window & respond appropriately in a timely fashion ... I think it turned out well & we accomplished our goal - setting up a framework for a Mohican Gathering next summer. Thank you all for your participation & helping it to all go smoothly. I, for one, had quite a few good laughs, especially when an all-out brawl over the rights to DDL erupted!
Here is the consensus - subject to comment from anyone interested:
1 - We will have a Gathering in June '98 - either the week-end of the 20th or the 27th, subject to further input.
2 - We'll spend a day at Chimney Rock Park & vicinity.
3 - The second day would be a tour of some of the other sites, possibly a Linville Gorge event.
4 - Marcia will be the one-woman comittee (unless she gets another volunteer, please?) to look into & help set-up lodging, etc.
5 - If we get enough firm committment, we'll make a gallant effort to rent the film in a theatre.
6 - Suggestion was made to extend invitation to cast & crew (and, that is when the DDL brawl broke out. Funny Stuff!)
It seems a good chance for many of us to meet one another & have a good time to boot! Looking forward to input from anyone interested!
Now, regarding the Director's Cut:
Friday night we received a phone call from Amy, of Michael Mann's office. She called to say that her boss loved the book that we included with the letters, and that he wanted six more copies! Needless to say, I am quite excited over THAT! Also, they were looking at he site as we spoke. MM was to be back in on Monday, to look further, I presume. We did not press the issue of the Director's Cut, at that time. However, obviously their reaction was quite positive. They definitely received our package, even opened it (and right there, we made some headway!) Ordering more books and viewing the Web Site certainly indicates a positive response. I think we can all rest assured that the letters did not go straight to the circular file and that they will be read. Really, we couldn't have hoped for much more when we all got together to do this. Now, we CAN dream! We'll see what happens ... keep you posted ... and want to thank Michael Mann for taking time out to devote to us!
One more thing, regarding the Eric Schweig interview thread. I was going to delete it, but e-mail has indicated a desire to keep it up. I guess many of you found it good reading. The line that convinced me came from someone who said, "No one ever died from a little intropspection." So be it!
