Fergus' brother's name was Samuel. He was a captain, and was recovering from smallpox so he asked Fergus to go "hold down the fort" (sorry, I couldn't resist) until he got there. Ol' Fergus was the founder of Indiana, PA and there are several historical markers in the area about him.
