I believe it just might be, I don't think the courier could have gotten to Webb and Webb drafted a reply and then Webb's courier gets killed and the message brought to Moncalm in as short a space of time as is shown. Possibly more time was taken for all the occurances in the fort, and outside the fort, to have taken place, but was not shown in the final cut!
