Wow, Victoria! What an interesting post! As to Alice...I would think it possible that she would have been taken as a wife, had she managed to snap out of her near-catatonic state & survive. She was certainly pliable, docile and young enough to be trained by her captors, though maybe not physically strong enough to become a slave. But I still can't imagine her actually surviving. She just seemed too far gone to me.
