Joe, Colm Meaney is the other officer in the first ambush. You will see him marching in the column along the "George Road" and hear his voice given the commands during the battle such as "PRESENT!!". Also you will then see him blown away point blank by Magua with a musket. I believe it is out of his dead hand that Miss Cora finds takes that pistol.

Anyway I loved Colm Meaney in the two Roddy Doyle Barrytown Trilogy film adaptions "The Commitments" and "The Snapper." The third film installment, "The Van" came out last summer also with Mr. Meaney. I also liked him in "Far and Away" and "Under-Siege." Therefore I have always been curious why such an experience supporting actor has such a minimal role in LOTM. I suspect some of his dialogue and scenes ended up on the cutting room floor which would explain his prominent place in the credits but little to show for it on screen.
