Thanks Jo, for defending both of our honors! To clarify a bit, I did, indeed, ask for a two-word question, and I was referring to actual spoken "lines," as opposed to mere grunts or sounds.
I have always had a different interpretation of the scene under the falls from any presented here. I could be wrong...my ears are old! But this is what I've always thought was going on:
shortly after they get down into the actual cave, Hawkeye turns to Chingachgook & says something to him in Mohican. Uncas turns towards Hawkeye & nods, and though his mouth appears to move slightly, I have always thought it was Chingachgook's voice answering Hawkeye in Mohican that we hear there. As for pulling Alice back from the edge, it does not sound like dialog to me, but a gutteral, gasping sound. Again, I could be wrong, but I didn't consider either of those instances to be "lines" from Uncas. In the first instance, I didn't think it was he speaking, and in the second, I only hear a vague sound. I wonder if we will ever know for sure, as neither instance was in the script as originally presented...?
Now, Jo, you asked a new trivia question a few days ago, and I ventured a guess...but so far, you haven't let me know if I was even close! My curiosity is running wild...are ya ever gonna tell me something???
