Det.McBeano: I was recently notified by a former police officer that there was such a thing as Broderick Crawford Day, which commemorates the debut of Highway Patrol back in 1955. That was a man's cop show for sure, but my all-time favorite cop show has to be Car 54 Where are You. As you probably know, the recently departed Nipsey Russell was on that show, with other luminaries such as Fred Gywnn and Al Lewis. My favorite episode was one in which Officer Gunther Toody had to bird-sit Captain Block's parrot while he was on vacation. Toody accidentally trained the bird to say, 'I hate Captain Block! I hate Captain Block!' Do you agree that they don't make cop shows like they used to? Ten-four! |

Rich...I loved Car 54 also...TV land was showing it for a while but I think it's off now??? Don't remember that particular episode you mentioned. I know Ileft a lot of cop shows off that list above...there were more but I can't think of them right now.
Off cop show topic...do you remember a show called " Then Came Bronson " with Michael Parks? It's because of that show that I got a motorcyle in the 70's and still have one to this day, then it was a Kawassaki, now it's a Harley..

Also I'll be out of town make that out of the country for 10 days leaving tommorrow for Italy and I WILL NOT BE NEAR A COMPUTER so that's why I won't be responding to any posts...Until then keep this web site active. Richie was once going to shut it down for inactivity. I'd hate to see it go. Bean |
" You're a misfit Afraid of yourself so you run away and hide You've been a misfit all your life But why don't you join the crowd and come inside You wander round this town Like you've lost your way You had your chance in your day Yet you threw it all away Now you're lost in the crowd Yet, still go your own way " --Ray Davies
" They'll move me up to Muswell Hill tomorrow, Photographs and souvenirs are all I've got, They're gonna try and make me change my way of living, But they'll never make me something that I'm not.
They're putting us in little boxes, No character just uniformity, They're trying to build a computerised community, But they'll never make a zombie out of me. " --Ray Davies
" The days go by and you wish you were a different guy, Different friends and a new set of clothes. You make alterations and affect a new pose, A new house, a new car, a new job, a new nose. But it's superficial and it's only skin deep, Because the voices in your head keep shouting in your sleep. Get back, get back. " --Ray Davies
" I've just had a dream that I never will forget. And I wish I could erase. I was standing on the street with a whole crowd of people And no one knew my name. And I was just another face No one looked at me or touched me Spoke to or acknowledged me. I had no identity or individuality No thoughts of my own, no mind or personality. I was just a no one, a total nonentity " -- Ray Davies

In a strange plain vanilla way, The Andy Griffith Show could be called a cop show, too. Sheriff Andy carried no gun and lived with his aunt. His little pal and deputy Barney Fife carried an unloaded gun and a bullet in his shirt pocket. What the hell was going on there in Mayberry? |

Bean: you have struck a chord here....the Dillards! How many people would remember, or even know that the dour faced family of old timey musicians was portrayed by the great Bluegrass group known as The Dillards? You are the man! When they are in an episode I still watch and pay attention. Ernest T. Bass was portrayed by Howie Morris, who passed away this year. Those people must have had a load of fun making that show. |

Every Thanksgiving weekend I go see Arlo Guthrie at Carnagie Hall, last year he had The Dillards ( also known as the Darling family in Mayberry ) open for him. One of the songs they did was the same one the did a few times on the show back in the 60's. I can't think of the name of it right now though.

One of my Shaw Ave. School classmates, David Gottlieb, was a nephew to Moe, Shemp and Curly Howard. I remember seeing an autographed picture of Moe in his house, which was on Shaw Ave. directly across from the school. David's dad had a dentistry practice there. What was Curly's given name? |

Yes, My wife has the same opinion of them as your wife (hum drum & boring )...same for Abbott and Costello another favorite of mine. Those 1/2 hour shorties of Bud and Lou crack me up. I liked their movies too. Laurel and Hardy were close runners up also. I would laugh so hard until I was in pain from watching all of the above. I wish they would come back on on TV Land or somewhere, anywhere! |

One of my faveoite espisodes of that show is when Lou wants to impress Hillary by playing the Piano and Bud sits behind the Piano with a piano record that he is suppose to start and stop while Lou fakes playing the Piano. The signal for Bud to either stop and start the record os when Lou says " ALRIGHT ", of course Bud gets bored and falls asleep behind the piano and the rest is comedy history!!!
and that's just one of many favorites, do you have any?
