DKT/MC5 TO TOUR THE PLANET EARTH:
For any MC5 fan like me, it's all about the music. The politics and drama that continue to surround the band's legacy may have enhanced their legend, but what really counts is the music they made.
Michael Davis (bass), Wayne Kramer (guitar) and Dennis "Machine Gun" Thompson (drums) will perform the music of the MC5 with
a revolving cast of special guest musicians. Dates and cities to be announced. Sounds interesting to me but with out the powerful soulful voice of Rob Tyner and stinging guitar from Fred " Sonic " Smith it won't be the same but I'm there when it happens !

Two of their band members may be deceased, but that isn’t stopping MC5 from launching a comeback.
According to Rolling Stone.com, the Motor City 5 (or more accurately these days, The Motor City 3) are planning a North American tour that will involve a cast of guest vocalists. The band — guitarist Wayne Kramer, drummer Dennis "Machine Gun" Thompson and bass player Michael Davis — will resurrect their act with guest singers including Marshall Crenshaw, Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, The Hellacopters’ Nicke Royale, Radio Birdman’s Deniz Tek and, most excitingly of all, former Lemonheads’ lead man Evan Dando.
The MC5 had their heyday in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s but are still loved by audiophiles, hipsters and loogans alike, largely because of their rock anthem "Kick Out The Jams." The band broke up in 1972, with Kramer going on to enjoy a successful solo career while the others worked on various projects of their own. MC5 singer Rob Tyner died of a heart attack in 1991 and guitarist Fred "Sonic" Smith passed away in 1994, also because of heart problems.
If "Kick Out The Jams" is all you know of the MC5, you’ll get a chance to learn more about the band this spring, as two DVDs about the band are in the works. The first is called Sonic Revolution: A Celebration Of The MC5, which captures a reunion concert that the band held in London last year. As with the upcoming tour, a team of singers were brought in to take over the mic, including Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, The Damned’s Dave Vanian and The Cult’s Ian Astbury, who has also taken a gig doing Jim Morrison’s vocals in The Doors. The DVD is also full of celebs — like Jack White and members of Death In Vegas and Primal Scream — talking about how important MC5 are in musical history.
A second DVD, MC5: A True Testimonial, is also on the way, which features celeb interviews similar to the ones on the previously mentioned DVD. The filmmakers are still trying to clear the rights on that one, so a firm release date has yet to be announced.
