Courtesy of Lil ... taken in July, 2002 - Looks a bit different now, eh? I added the notations to the picture ... the mailbox sat just out of camera range to the left. That's be McLean's place off to the right [fence must be a more recent addition]. I don't recall the two signs being there, either. The Szatmary's lived to the right of the Feds ... then Barbara Meltzer, remember her? Anyone remember Kevin Pierson? His old place was, I believe, the 2nd house to the left of the Docs. Am I right, Doc?

The Streets:
  • Everitt Street winds from the far left & continues straight thru the camera
  • Amherst Avenue is the right hand street
  • Franklin Street is off to the left by the mailbox site
  • Essex & Sobro were to the rear

Bombers Field!

Anyone remember anything you can add?

Rich

What a long, strange trip it's been!

Yesterday afternoon ( Saturday ) Andrea and me visited my Mom in Valley Stream, on Sobro Ave a stones throw from the corner mailbox area. Anyway after we left I drove up Sobro made the right on Everett St. to see if by any chance Foch was home which he wasn't, so I continued straight down in to the land that once was giving Andrea a detailed account of who lived where, and where things use to be like the mailbox and Doc's backstop to home plate fence...ect...

Kevin Pierson was three houses over. Sadly, I heard he passed away a few years back.

What about the nutty kid ( and family ) who lived about 2 houses down off Everett on Essex, Stephen Miller ? He had a sister too who up until the early 90's some time I would still see walking to the bus stop in the morning. And wasn't there a little girl named Meg who lived directly across the street from the Foch's before the family that lived there Sadie and her kids and grand kids, Donna, Tommy, ect.. moved in and lived during all the years we hung out. And another kid on Frank St. named Richard Saltis or something like that.

WOW!! A photo of "The Corner"!!!! The memories flood and overload the brain! Soooooooooooo much could be said!!! I guess the Halloween "Wall of Flame" would have been right across the bottom of the picture...Barry came out of McClean's house in a frenzy with the ice pick from the right (A bit like the shower scene in "Psycho")... Richy punched in the nose toward right of picture...House and garage windows broken with baseballs all over the place...People taking turns puking at the mailbox and over Makowski's bushes on left...Doc's cherry tree in distance,center...Power's cherry tree to the left, bottom out of picture...Cherry FIGHTS everywhere!!!!..etc...etc..etc...
