Last night I saw one of the very Rare performances by the ulta rare band " World _Party " featuring the incredible talent tof Karl Wallinger...who in my opinion ranks up there in the John Lennon, Ray Davies, Peter Townshend, Paul Westerberg, Joey Ramone, Arthur Lee, Roy Wood, Lucinda Williams, ect.. ranks of rock icons & singer songwriters. Other than some of the recent Ray shows last nights show was the best show I have seen since Arthur Lee and Love at the Bowery Ballroom about 4 years ago. Karl and World _Party will be back in August and September playing with a full band, last night was just him mostly acoustic and 2 back up musicians....my advice is to definitely see him buy all their albums and CD's including the brand new one that just came out called " Dumbing Up "

Music afficianados! This message is to remind everyone out by the corner mailbox that June is International Accordian Awareness Month. Doc, can you lead the band with a little 'Man on the Flying Trapeze'?

I think I will go home, whip out the old Gretch "La Tosca" and bellow out a few bars of "Man on the Flying Trapeze" for Rich and if I can recall the notes, a few bars of "The Entertainer" for the Bean.

This is providing that the bellows haven't dried out after 40 years of sitting in a delux plush lined 'cordeen box.

Umm Pah Pah!

Doc: If you are taking requests on the cordeen, I would like to hear a little Tico Tico.

Perhaps a very very very little Tico Tico. After the first note, it could get ugly.

If you like accordian, go see World Party on September 9th at Irving Plaza. They have one guy in the band who sings, plays violin and according and he is really good at what he does. I think this show will be with the full band, drums and bass ect...Karl Wallinger & World Party are another band like Arthur Lee and Love who never have come close to getting the recognition and publlicity they deserve.

While walking through the Venetian Hotel here in Las Vegas last Friday night (my wife Mary and I were going to see Blue Man Group on our seventeenth wedding anniversary)I noticed a small accordian on the floor of a piazza type area, unattended and unguarded. I thought of the chances of one of my guitars remaining out in public in full view of passers by. I have had two stolen in my younger days.
It reminded me of an accordian playing friend of mine who was driving home from a gig one night with his cordeen in the back seat of his car. He decided to stop off at a local bar for a drink and wondered if he should lock the accordian in his trunk for safety. Figuring he'd only be in the bar for fifteen minutes, tops, he decided to chance it and left it in the back seat. Sure enough, when he came back out a half hour later somebody had put another cordeen in the car....

Rich,

Curious that you would mention this today. My son Ryan left to drive back to school today but not before he went through my instruments to take what he wanted. When I entered my drum room later today I found my old 'cordeen case open with the old Gretch "LA Tosca" still inside. He didn't say anything but I am sure he was suprised and frightened at the sight of it ... so he probably dropped it and ran. A"Daring young man"!

Regarding that hotel 'cordeen you mentioned.........is it possible that they built the hotel around it?

Rich...

This is too wierd. I opened my e-mail after I posted the last note and found this message from the guitar player with whom I am working on a Brazilian funk project:

" Jd!

Just a reminder that we are on for Thursday at 6ish. Dave just called to confirm and so I am sending it to you so we are all on the same page. I think I should have the percussion player with us. Not positive but we have been playing phone and e-mail tag. He's real excited to meet you guys. Im pretty psyched that hes going to be just another piece to the killer sound. I have some others I am talking to including a girl vocalist for even more sound!

Do you know any accordion players that can rock? I know I know... another bizarre request. But I am hearing some cumbia sounds in what we are doing and would love that for the right tune. let me know...

Chris "

Doc: I don't think the Venetian Hotel was built around the cordeen. I think someone left it there on purpose, daring your son Ryan to stumble across it. Its probably still there.
