I know the photo and the party - June 1969. Dave & Eddie Miranda and Robert Ramierez, warm beer in the woods and cold beer hidden under the coke cans. I will look for it. |

Posted - March 30 2003 : 5:07:27 PM Baby Fats Flashbacks - Of all the friends I made growing up in Valley Stream, and I have been blessed with many, Brian Powers was my very first. My family moved to Franklin Rd in the summer of 1965 and I was typically anxious yet apprehensive about my new environment. Venturing down the block toward Everett St which seemed as different as another country to me at the time, I came upon a house surrounded with bushes and a big tree on the corner. Brian was in the tree. Being "so far" from my new home in this new country the voice startled me at first. "Hey,you wanna go down in my basement and listen to some records", the blue eyed, sandy blonde, bushy eye-browed kid said. "I,...uh...well,sure lets go" I said. We went down to his basement and he put on "The red rubber ball" by the Circle which was one of my favorites at the time. Within minutes we both had a broom in our hands playing guitar and singing our hearts out. I didn't even know this kid and I was already making a fool out of myself in front of him, but I was comfortable. Brian had a way of making people feel comfortable with themselves even in uncomfortable moments. I knew that minute this kid could be my friend. Through him I meet so many others and he made it so easy. There are so many experiences I had with him my brain just short circuits as they all come rushing in so fast.
There was the time he talked Ralphy into having a party at his house and we just trashed it. We all got drunk and Ralphy's mother said he could not come out the next day because he was sick. She said she thought Ralphy had been, "smoking cigarettes". There was the time he hushed everyone at Judy Doc's 8th grade graduation party because he wanted to make a toast to her - with Italian bread! Then there was the time he talked me into dressing up as "hookers" and going to Doris's Halloween party. We both wore short skirts/makeup/& even put balloons in our blouses for our "boobs". And some strange guy to this day I don't remember was "feeling" my "boobs" all night strange but the party was a blast. And the time we cut out of school on Ascention Thursday to party at Long Beach (NOW THERES ANOTHER STORY FOR ANOTHER DAY!) And we asked Brian if he was going to cut out too but he said thats not necessary because he was already off. Said he had cut out the month of May! His whole personality seemed to say, "life is good-just live it." God I loved that kid! Dink

Posted - March 24 2003 : 10:55:11 PM Until you mentioned it Frank, I forgot that Doc had mentioned to me about Brians passing. I left the hood around 71' and since then Doc has kept me sort of in the loop about happenings at the ole corner. I knew Diane Reed also died but didn't know any details. This is such a great site to reminisce and I really want to thank Richy for getting us all back together. |

Posted - March 13 2003 : 5:53:33 PM Yup Ronnie my Man, Babyfats was a one of a kind and would crack us all up...there were times I laughed so fcuking hard I had to or should have gone home to change my undies...ahh haaa now you know were that awful odor came from...just kidding but I did laugh so hard at times I actually hurt or almost couldn't breath anymore...I mean between me, you, your brother, Doc, Dink, Eddie, Butch, Babyfats,Janey The Foch's, Skinny Vinnie, Benny, the Macow's. Peggy, ect... and all the others that were there or around at different times could have been the orignal cast for Saturday Night Live before it ever was thought of...and that was with out script writers !!! We certaintly were a Motley Crew !!! and so far everything mentioned on this entire forum has only scratched the tip of the iceberg of all the outragous, stupid, funny, insane, off the wall stories and incidents that hapenned to us on a daily day to day, and especially nightly basis ! It's really know wonder how all of us are not dead or locked up somewhere...or are without being famous or not maybe even having our own Reality based TV show like the Osbournes ! |

Posted - March 11 2003 : 9:27:18 PM I don't know many details, but the story I got was that Brian had stopped at a 7-11 around 10:30 pm or so to pick up a sandwich after work and called his wife to say he will be home shortly. As he was leaving the store he was killed crossing the street. I went to a Dad/Daughter dance last month with my daughter, Maria, and after a short conversation realized I was sitting next to Brian's best man at his wedding. Turns out he is my daughter's friend's Dad. I can't believe his name is slipping me at the moment...(Mark??), but when he mentioned Brian, I felt this huge wave of closeness pouring through me. I felt like Brian was there with us once again....Brian always had a beautiful, friendly way (even though we all knew he was a maniac). He just loved to have a good time. We all miss him and his antics! |

Posted - February 19 2003 : 12:20:02 AM Rich...I think you're right Brian was just crossing a Street somwhere on LI...if you find his obit you should scan it in on here somewhere... Do you remember Diane and Patti Reed who lived on Essex Place near Benny, I think Diane also Died too right, drove her car off a Pier, That was way back when too I think. Benny would know the details about her more than us I think....Bean |

Posted - February 18 2003 : 05:15:45 AM You know, it's kind of weird, but I had forgotten of this tragic event. Yes, he was killed by a car - I think he was simply crossing a street - what was it, 10 years ago?? I have his obituary somewhere ...
Very sad.
Rest in peace, Bryant! |
