I knew John since 1st grade at shaw Ave and all through High School Memorial and central...lost contact with him during the 70's but in the late 80's we got back together and were hanging out a lot, along with Ben Dadoine who at that time was making frequent trips in from the West Coast ( LA) to visit John and me.

Let's all say a prayer for John and his family and his wife and her family too and wish John a speedy and full recovery...

Doc was at his wife's funeral last night and spoke to John who was let out of the hospital to attend his wife's funeral...

details of what happened below....

DWI crash leaves family shattered

What began as a birthday celebration for a Valley Stream woman turned into a tragedy early yesterday when police said a drunken driver plowed into the car she was riding in, killing her and critically injuring her husband and sister.

Virginia Casazza Urgo, 62, died at the scene of the crash, at Wantagh Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown.

Her sister, Linda Chapman, 53, of Levittown, was "clinging to life" at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset last night, family members said, her pelvis crushed, her lung collapsed.

Her husband, John Urgo, 53, of Valley Stream, was in critical condition at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, family said, his jaw and back broken.

And the driver who police said struck them, Sophia Santos, 20, of Albertson, was also at the East Meadow hospital with minor injuries. She was arrested and will be arraigned on charges of driving while intoxicated and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

Several messages left with Santos' family members were not returned yesterday.

"We've been living a nightmare," said Casazza Urgo's daughter, Gina Pedroli, 43. "This girl really made a lot of hell for so many families."
