Everytime I post, the screen freezes and I'm entertained by the midi version of the girls left behind. Surely I'm not the only one so afflicted?

I had some problems with the Quicktime wanting to update, then failing, then popping back up everytime I went anywhere. I updated Quicktime via Apple's site and all was good again.
Don't know if that's any help, but at least I tried. I'm sure you've tried the normal stuff, clearing your temp files, history, etc. |
I came. I saw. I took 300 pictures. |

I hit 'post' and the tree goes up to the Battle of the Little Bighorn Page, which I bypassed on the way in. And once that godawful song starts, I can't close out and have to nuke it.
There could be a Java conflict with my security, and since nobody else has it, it must be me. Hoping someone else did. |

2321: It just might be the version you are running that has this affliction. I am running Windows ME and have had none of your problems.
The main computer is running Windows XP and again none of these problems.
Perhaps someone who is more skilled in computers than we are could answer your questions?
Wish you good luck in your search for an answer. Loren Dead |

Just some input. I have Window ME. No problems at this end. But then again, I had someone in about three months ago to clear out the computer. I was having all sorts of problems. It has worked find since. Maybe 2321 you might need some pro help, unless ofcourse you have a better knowlege of this thing than some of us. As for me, I wouldn't know where to begin on here for repairs. |

It's The Girl I Left Behind Me, not the Garry Owen, that I get. But virtually anything in the clutches of a souless midi sounds like hell.
I'm flummoxed, and I know a fair amount about computers, and it doesn't always happen. Just enought to drive me batty. You should be able to post and leave without that visitation. |

You can turn your sounds off in IE options. This should take care of the MIDI playing. I really think you need to clear your temp files, cookies and history. If that doesn't work, try updating Quicktime (or installing it if you don't even have it, imbedded MIDI files usually use Quicktime plugins), and you can also try updating your IE through Windows Update. Another thing I suggest doing is opening My Computer, rightclicking the drive with the OS (normally C drive) and selecting properties. Then click on Disk Cleanup. This will clean your Temp files, History, Temporary Internet Files, etc., completely. So...
In IE: Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Multimedia>Play Sounds in Webpages (click that off) Tools>Internet Options>General>Delete Files + Delete Cookies + Clear History
In Windows: My Computer>C Drive>Right Click>Properties>Disk Cleanup

I also put this board in my Links folder of my Favorites, so that I can skip all the other nonsense and get right to the area I post in. I do this with all of the boards I post on regularly. |

Okay, I signed up in a vain hope that this would lessen the music, and after the last week I'm pretty much immune to spam.
No go. It still won't let me leave without a seranade. Mumble.
I realize I'm the only one having this issue. However, one vote, here, for nuking all mandatory music should the webmaster ever entertain the topic. Please count this as one strong yet restrained Yea for that option on anything that recalls a Country Bear moment. |

Hmmm ... I've got a pretty antiquated system [though I do update Windows & IE, etc.] - it's running Windows 98 on a Pentium II 300 mhz - and have zippo problems. Are you using the latest version of IE? Are you using IE at all?
Not sure if this will work, but if you go into Internet Explorer ---> Tools ---> Internet Options ---> Advanced - be sure you have no Java boxes ticked; only JIT Compiler for Microsoft Virtual Machine [under Microsoft VM]. Sometimes, Sun Java, if you have that on your system, conflicts with this.
Will consider the music "issue," if'n you want. |
