Looking at the ongoing poll regarding who was responsible for the LBH "massacre," I see 34% voting for Reno.

Would those persons please help us understand their thoughts?

This is not a trap, I am just curious.

Best of wishes,

Billy

I regret that I was not included; I would have been honored!

Markland, Flynn, MacLeod and Cross.

I'm waaaaaaaaayyyy honored to be included in such a league. By the way, we don't open our mouths here. We write.

Brother Tom sounds like another Frank Spencer...his first post is ill-informed and borderline insulting. Obviously reading is not his forte as I haven't contributed many opinions regarding LBH and as far as reading primary sources, well, I feel that I compare favorably with professionals on the quantity and quality of my "readings".

Oh well, another wannabe Troll to put on Ignore from the get-go.

BTW, good reply Paul.

Billy Markland, Richard Flynn, Robert Bostwick, Richard MacLeod, and Paul Cross, you boys are waaaaaayyyy out of your league. You need to shut your mouths and read some primary sources. And Paul, you need to take a course in being a civilized human being.

I again ask people to visualize if Custer and Reno's commands were reversed. Short divine intervention, Custer would not have lasted long with two hundred men in that village, and probably would have done what Reno did, as he himself had done on the Yellowstone: hit the trees. Reno, meanwhile, would currently be projected as deliberately puttering slowly along the ridge to MTC, slowly and with treason aforethought taking time to tighten saddles, making a half assed charge, and then because of his incompetence ending up on the worst land the 7th saw that day, surrouned and doomed. Just like Reno. Custer, meanwhile, heroically held the command together and lived Against All Odds.

wILD,

I, too, have a problem with history's Reno-bashing. It was Custer's decision to split his command into three parts, not Reno's or Benteen's. It was Custer who then launched an attack without even a minimal amount of intelligence to tell him of the size and strength of his enemy.

Reno was sent on a fool's errand, Benteen on a wild goose chase. Was Reno supposed to drive all the way through the village and connect with Custer on the other side, plowing through on the strength of 130 troopers? Or, was he supposed to extract his men from a hopeless situation, bound across the river, up the ridge, up the valley and relieve Custer?

Reno is also accused of losing all self control at the death of Bloody Knife, yet he saved 100 or so men from meeting the exact fate of Custer's column. Had Reno been wiped out, what then of Benteen? The destruction of Benteen's command would have been short work for the Sioux and Cheyenne.

Reno stopped his advance to the village after alerting the Indians to his presence
How could he have avoided alerting the village?

and allowed them the opportunity to mass in his front.
Ya think 2000 warriors are going to run from 120 troopers

Then after retreating to a good location of cover in the wooded area he leads a "charge" out, without a rear guard,
So he's to sacrifice a troop and lose 40 men?

After gaining the hill he stops Benteen and his battalion from participating in the battle
The only battle he saw was the one he was engaged in and where was his support.

leaving GAC and his 5 companies alone to engage the Indians. No .Custer left him.

Uhh, Billy ... don't look at me! I voted Army Tactics and Policies--or whatever it was ... Custer stuck to/relied upon approved cavalry tactical methodologies and by this allegience, he might have lost the battle. So when did the Army take into consideration the guerilla warfare of the Cheyenne and Sioux--other than the fact that they should/would/could have scattered? I guess GAC learned the hard way ... pity, pity.

Granted, Reno presented himself as something other than a "fearless leader ..."

Hoka hey!
