This summers reenactment of 'Custer's Last Stand' will take place at the Real Bird Ranch located on the Frontage Road just below the entrance to the Custer National Monument and right alongside the famous Little Bighorn River. The dates for this summer's show will be June 24, 25 & 26, 2005. Please do not confuse this reenactment with the far more publicized and historically inaccurate commercial pageant going by the same name in the town of Hardin 20 miles away along the Hardin railroad flats. Custer's Last Stand at the Real Bird Ranch will feature over 50 of the best mounted warriors ever seen on the Great Plains in full warpaint and feathers, and the most authentic 7th Cavalry reenactors in the country. These reenactors have been in numerous movies and television specials and have the reputation of being the finest in the land. Featured personalities will include Steve Alexander as General Custer, Gary Stewart as Colonel Tom Custer, Bill Rini as Colonel Keogh, Nicolo Scro as "Count" DeRudio and Jeff Wahl as "Jack" Sturgis. We also hope to have Captains French & Weir and Col. Cooke as well.

about the reenactment

In 2001, at the Realbird show, one of the Indians jumped from his horse to scalp an enemy and looked up at the crowd and he was wearing sunglasses. The "enemy" on the ground said something and they both started laughing. Funny moment.

Strange you bring this up, Hunkpapa ... some NA participant got hurt during the Real Birds' reenactment on June 26th last year. Don't know if I've ever heard the final word on him--he was stretchered off the "battlefield" and taken away by ambulance.

Hey, all--

Got the dates (finally) for the CBHMA stuff--the Pizza party will be on June 23, the seminar is the 24th, their field trip from the Yellowstone to the Rosebud Valley is the 25th. And of course, the LBHA begins the 29th ...

Someone--say any of this stuff interests you ...

Regards,

It would be sad to let a meet-up chance slip by, for sure. As for meetings, it depends how involved we all want to be--a day at the battlefield, a dinner, a gathering? Do we want to act as a large group or follow our own, individual plans? I'd be more than willing to act as a conduit for our plottings. A trip to LBH at anniversary time is a little more crowded, indeed, but there are a lot more opportunities for gaining knowledge about the battle and the men involved.

The Park would get a cut, of course. A mechanical indian could run back and forth on a long shot, a hit would count as a hole in one. A restaurant/bar could be installed called the Seventh's Watering Hole! The Park Service could maintain it and the proceed's would finance the park.

This is too funny ... !

The golfer's would feel good, the gambler's would feel good. The tourists would feel good. And the indians would feel good. Looks like a win, win situation!

I don't play golf, I'm not as pretty as Movingrobewoman, and I lack the Paul's savior faire, but I can B.S with the Hunk all day! Everybody who is interested get on board. Imagine, the chance to match faces with the wonderful personalities of this great forum.

I do think we are on to something--a POSITIVE, fun meet-up, enjoying something we have in common--LBH (not excluding mugs of Custer's Last Stout). Go ahead and prepare our best arguments! Let's do start making plans--the Arkansas brigade is flexible and is rarin' to go. I, for one, am ready to learn, learn, learn.

Bob--I'm not sure if there's anything resembling a golf course in Hardin. But Warlord's plans for "battlefield as St. Andrews" may have wings ... BTW, going to LBH at anniversary is no big deal. Yeah, there are more people there, but it's free to get into the park--and with the CBHMA meeting down the road, many of our favourite authors will be hanging around.

I look forward to a great, friendly weekend--perhaps we should assign a "tour director" position?

On another note--is anybody planning to attend the Mid-South LBHA regional meeting next weekend?

Hokahey!

June 24-25-26 -- Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

It's very possible.

I was thinking of golf down the road a bit. I seldom go anywhere without the clubs in tow.

Joseph,

Although I've visited the battlefield several times, I've not been there during an anniversary observance. Such a trip is hardly out of the question for me. I live in Spokane. Of course, I haven't MRW's beauty, intellect and charm, but I can make pretty good b.s.

I wish there were a golf course over there. They could call it, "Custer's Last Mulligan."

Movingrobewoman, would it not be a wonderful opportunity for friends to gather upon this hallowed ground and share the experience? Let us make a commitment to do so. What an opportunity for friends, all of us, to meet upon a common ground of interest and sharing.

Joe--

Looks like the calendar will not provide me and my husband the time this year to attend ANY re-enactment. But the event on the Real Bird's land is quite well done, worth the money--and hey, held at the mouth of MTC, so what else is there? I would encourage anyone to attend. We've certainly enjoyed it! A good sense of "peace through unity."

BTW--we are planning a trip LBH-way for June 25th anniversary celebrations--but our time will be really limited. No trip to Dakota this annum ... sigh ... hopefully, I'll get more than fifteen minutes alone on the battlefield ...

your obedient servant,
