Does anyone know what, if any, recent projects have resulted in precise cartographic/cgi work of the field and who sponsored it, and whether satellite or aerial input exclusive to the project was used?

Probably because this battle has been analyzed to death, and with new books published every year rehashing the same tired stuff there's financial incentive to think up (and publish) some new angle, and this seems an obvious one. The only thing I've seen like what Dark Cloud asks for are some maps of the South Skirmish Line area that are in Michno's "E Troop" book. The maps that are out there leave a lot to be desired. Which one, for example, adequately gives an idea of the ravine in front of the Keogh group? Keogh's marker is just a few feet from tumbling into this big pit....

A good large scale [1:10000] map with one meter contours would be a great aid to understanding the details of the battle.A digital terrain map would be even better. |
