I'm not sure where this post will wind up because I am very new to this board. My name is Okwaho and I have been posting on several other boards for sometime. I am an Indian reenactor portraing a Caughnwaga Mohawk from Quebec and therefore am a French ally.I have been looking foward to this board since I heard about it from Fitz.My main interests are early French and English guns with primary interest in French fusils and 17th and early 18th century Indian and French material in general.I have also never been a walnut hull although I have friends of that ilk.

It's great to be an Indian ally of the French.

I am glad to see you finally got registered! And speaking of guns, there is one which doesn't get used nearly enough. Maybe once every two years? It belongs to Rich Federici.

Welcome, Okwaho!

Diane is right, Mohicanland is wonderful and I look forward to hearing more about your reenacting!

FYI, the rifle was used 3 times since June! Me and my boys have had a blast shooting out in the pasture at my old abode! Love that gun!

From what I can see, that's a nice looking gun.I used to be into Southern Kentuckys and Tennessee mtn. rifles in particular but got out when I realized virtually all those late gunsall looked alike.

It's great to be an Indian ally of the French.

I guess you are familiar with Gillespie guns of NC. What period to time do they cover. I saw a copy of one by someone named Gillis, who lives in SC, that I liked. A little later that my period, but I just like them.

Fitz, I don't know a lot about those Gillespie rifles. I believe they run from the late 18th century on into the 19th century. They seem to be very plain guns and fairly typical mountain rifles from the western North Carolina area. There were several family members who built guns. Dennis Glazener has a book on them and his web site is www.gillespie.com The Gillespies lived in the East Fork, N.C. area. Dennis posts on the American longrifle board and it's web site is http://www.americanlongrifles.com/index.htm This is an excellent board dealing with builders and collectors of the longrifle and other muzzle loading guns and accoutrements.
