It has been very quiet in Mohicanland lately. I have been here nearly every day just to check in and see what is going on, but my own activity level has been almost nil for a number of weeks now. The reason for this has to do with the news I must share with you all.
A few of you here already know this, but most of you do not and I feel it is time to let you all know. My husband became ill a couple of months ago, has been going through a long string of doctor appointments and tests, and we now have a definite diagnosis. He has pancreatic cancer.
Due to the location of the tumor, it is inoperable. That is the bad news. The good news is that even though it is agressive, it does not appear to have spread. He is to begin radiation on Monday and will have a treatment every day, Monday through Friday, for 5 weeks. At the same time, he will be having chemotherapy once a week. I have been spending much time on the internet, trying to educate myself as much as possible. I do not like what I am reading, but am remaining optimistic.
This has been, without equal, the most difficult time of my life. I now know that only those who have personally gone through the agony of waiting and worrying and wondering can really know what the scare of cancer is like. It is horrific.
We have many, many people praying for Gary. Some of you are aware of my religious beliefs, and our faith in the goodness of God has not waivered. We believe that He will work a miracle and give Gary a complete healing. If any of you should wish to offer prayers for him, I would be so grateful.

Joyce, I really do know how you feel. I was really scared when Bill had to go through radiation for his prostate cancer. He had many people praying for him, and he is still with us!!! Some people don't believe that prayer does any good. I'm not one of those people, so please know that you and Gary are in my prayers. Stay strong Joyce and know that we are all here for you!!!

My father is a kidney and prostate cancer survivor, so I know that prayers and positive attitude do work.

When someone drops out of sight here, I find myself wondering if the peron is just generally busy, or if they have nothing to say at the moment, or if something is wrong.
Thank you for sharing your (bad) news with all of us. Now you get the benefit of many more thoughts and prayers on your behalf!
Take care,

WW......MIracles happen, for sure. A close acquaintance of mine was diagnosed with liver cancer 1 1/2 years ago. Radiation, chemo, the whole bit was his life for a year and more. A few months ago he was given basically a clean bill of health. We all believe it was his religious faith AND his believe that he WOULD beat this.....I never saw him down during the whole time (although he did have some bad times).....My prayers for Gary and you......Many Flags |

WW: I am so sorry that I ever complain about my own troubles when I know you are both going through a much harder time than I am. I am praying for you. I believe that miracles happen ALL the time, not just this time of year, but for you, I hope that this time of year is Your Time. We are all One and when we pray together the Love becomes stronger and stronger, growing and expanding like the universe expands. That,to me, is God! With much love and encouragement, Rose |

Thank you. Thank you... every single one of you! You are all such a blessing to me. I promise to tell you, occasionally, how things are going for Gary as treatments are beginning and as his cure progresses.
In the meantime, let's get this durned old board a-hoppin' again! We don't want to give our Sachem any reason for shutting it down, now do we?

Joyce, a friend of mine's brother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given about seven months to live (at the time he was 72.) He went through radiation and all the treatment and experienced prayer from many, many people (as well as his daily prayer) and five years later he was still swimming a mile a day in the pool at his retirement complex... there is always hope in God and always power in prayer. Please know you and Gary are in mine. Christina |

Wilderness Woman,
It's truly amazing how much can happen in a few weeks time of being away from here! I'm very, very sad to hear that you and your husband have to face the cancer battle. I am all too familiar with that situation. But I am also amazed at the treatment improvements that have come along in the last 8 or 10 years - for all types of cancers. Please do stay encouraged and hopeful. I'm happy for you that you have such a strong religious faith. It will serve you well.
You and your hubby are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong.
Jayne

WW, I know exactly what you're going through. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer a few years ago. For her, it was basically impossible to get rid of because it just kept growing, and she didn't live through it. She passed away 5 days after Christmas. However, she did do the radiation and chemo as well. We made many trips to Philiadelphia for the treatments, and my mother always said that they helped her feel better. So, I think you're husband will be greatful for the treatments, an since it hasnt grown, it should help a lot! I hope everything works out for you, and I'll pray for you. --Nora |
