I've only seen the film (aside from reading the Classics Illustrated Comics as a child).
I would be curious to know what ideas are put forth in LOTM that might be considered laughable when read sibe by side with a history book like Crucible of War.

I'm the author of this question and I am thinking that I have been rather clumsy in the way I have worded it.
What I am trying to figure out is best asked this way...
If someone were to make a book or movie that did for LOTM what Unforgiven did for Westerns (ie address and destroy some silly notions put forth earlier), what subjects would make the best targets?
Hawkeye's monologues?
A too rosey portrayal of nobility and chivalry in the American woods?
exagerations of prowess?
I think of the film LOTM as being one of the better portrayals of the American Indian in so far as there are both good guys and bad guys.
I think "Black Robe" might even be slightly better if someone is looking for a more serious and starker depiction.
BUT, I don't know as much about the novel and I would be curious to know what the members of this forum think.
