A question has come up, and I am hoping one or more of you reenactors may be able to give me some guidance and insights. Do any of you know what kinds of adornments, embellishments, attachments, inlays etc that Cherokee natives may have used on their rifles/smoothbores? Particularly during the 1760-1830 period? You can post or email to me any suggestions as to how they may have individualized their weapons with adornments etc. Thanks much.
DDL's rifle had seed bead inlays around all the pins, for example. I am told that was done by natives. On Wes's rifle I inlayed a silver otter trade piece on the patchbox (his nickname is Otter).
That's the sort of insights I am looking for. Anybody got info on that - documented or otherwise?

Bill, I was thinking Wes carried a Tulle, although I never actually looked at his scenes closely enough to tell.

Fitz,

In the movie, he did carry a Tulle. I was speaking of the rifle I had made for him. On that, I inlayed a silver trade piece of an otter into the patchbox lid.

Still wanting any info I can get on what Cherokee of the times might have personalized their firearms with though. Any designs, unique trade silver or markings, anything that might have denoted their tribe etc they might have used to "dress up" or personalize their rifles and trade guns.

Bill, I sent you a "Mohican Message" on your Monican board private mail. Let me know if you got it. It has to do with Indian guns.
