Another (Remember "Hawkeye", anyone?)? I'm not sure how to feel about this...

Hopefully they won't impose todays "political outlook" on the story ... Alas, I fear we won't recognize this as even related to the book or earlier movies ... When they say things like "fresh take" & "explore in different ways" - that's kinda scary - who knows where this will end up???
.
While the James Fenimore Cooper book and original film leave large shoes to fill, - Nick and Cary’s script is a riveting read and fresh take. They embrace this incredible opportunity to show and explore characters so often marginalized,” - Kassell said. “To echo a sentiment Nick expressed to me in our first conversation, ‘certain stories are timeless vessels that allow different generations to look at it and explore them in different ways.’

When I sent the link earlier today--I am *not* making this up--the article said MEL GIBSON played Hawkeye in the 1992 version. I just clicked the link in the post...someone changed it back to Daniel Day-Lewis.

Durnit. I was kind of hoping that someone on the board would see the mistake and laugh as much as I did :).

I see they are going back to the Ucas/Cora relationship instead of Uncas/Alice. That should confuse the people who are waiting to see who replaces Mel Gibson. Maybe Uncas will have blue face paint. I suspect this will be something on the order of the Jamestown series. It's so bad I can't watch it.

I suspect the same thing, Fitz. If they simply use their God-given talents to tell the Cooper story, it might very well be excellent. But chances are they'll spin it in a way that fits today's unfortunate norms. Instead of storytelling, it'll likely be preaching.
