About the Grazin'
...or Pig Pickin' and fixin's, just a word about that. The menu, as posted on the Gathering Page, represents Early American Fare to go with the spirit of the Mohicalympics. We've tried to keep things reasonably priced, simple, yet tasty. For desserts, I would ask that anyone that would like to share a favorite family cobbler recipe, or other period dessert, please DO!!! Other 18th Century period recipes are of course also welcome, but please let me know what you have in mind so we can plan space-wise. There are kitchen facilities at the Geneva in the West Apartment (where I'll be staying - that oven I'm afraid will be fairly busy Friday night), the East Apartment and the Gathering Place (efficiency rooms only have microwaves), so keep that in mind for your planning. For those of you that want a vacation from the kitchen - just bring that appetite!!!!! The pig will probably not be done until around 3PM, so you may want to bring a snack if that is going to be a stretch from breakfast fer ya!
Also...there really is no expansive picnic ground at the French Broads place, so those of you that have folding tables and chairs...PLEASE LUG 'EM ALONG THIS DAY!!!!!!!
Regarding the Snoozin'!..............
As Rich has posted, the ENTIRE Hotel is reserved for US ALONE until April 17th. That is a gracious plenty time for those of us that know we are going to make arrangements. Please see the Gathering Page for a layout of the rooms at the Geneva. Thinking of past Gatherings, the East side tends to be a little more bustle-y, after all this is the place where Theresa knocks people up in the mornings, and the West rooms typically a bit calmer due the fact they are all kings. The river rooms provide the most convenience to the Pool and Tiki Bar. The Hotel Diagram has been constructed to assist those that would like to stay near or next to others, and help first Gatherers get a feel for the place. PLEASE let me know when you make reservations, for which room (so we can mark it occupied - no names posted), and if you are in search of a roommate to share expenses. We hope to coordinate this so that those that wish to share expenses can do so! I'll do my best to work something out for those that wish to bunk with someone!!!
As you will see on the layout page, one of the most economical (and fun) ways to spend the Gathering is in one of the apartments. Keep in mind that if you desire peace and quiet and tranquility - this is not the avenue you should choose. Put several Gatherers together in one place...and the laughs could go on into the wee hours!!! Also, if you are looking for a private place to lay your head (read: a whole bed to yourself), keep in mind that there are two queens in one bedroom in the apartments, so if you want a whole bed to yourself, choose to share a queen room with another person or pay for two slots in the apartment. These, of course, can be coed depending on how folks want to bunk up together!
I will be staying in the West Apartment (to be close to the cooking equipment and larger kitchen) with a friend, so there are 4 slots left there, but YOU'LL HAVE TO PUT UP WITH GADGET GIRL!!!!!!
SO...LET'S RECAP...let Diana (Gadget Girl) know:
1) If you plan to bring a cobbler (yes please, yes please!!),
2) If you plan to bring another Early American dish to supplement the menu,
-AND-
3)When you make a reservation and where.
I check my email several times a day, so bring it on guys!!!! I'm sure there will be additions and changes made as we go along, that's cool, just let me know.
Can you EVEN wait until June?????????
